Angler Eats Huge Sea Bass Record Breaker

Kurt Price, 25, missed the chance to set the new record with his recent most recent catch– a huge sea bass caught off the coast of South Wales. Rather than weighing the massive fish first, the angler ended up eating it. It was only after the sea bass was completely consumed did Price look online to see whether or not the fish was record sized.

It turns out that the largest sea bass on record was approximately 19 lbs 11 oz. Price says that he was sure that the record must’ve been closer to 40 lbs which is why he didn’t bother to weight it. From what experts can tell from a photograph, his catch was most likely larger than 20 lbs.

It was on a fishing trip this past weekend that Price with his friend Kevin Lowcher ended up eating the record sized bass. According to Price, it took about 10 minutes for him to reel the monster in. They took their catch back to the caravan they had brought, cleaned it filleted it and ate it.

The two friends stated that it ended up being a very tasty meal. Still, for Price it doesn’t make up for the fact that he could have had the new record had he thought of weighing it. “I’m totally gutted about it,” he stated in an interview with The Daily Mail.

I wonder how often people set records and don’t even realize it. Just think– someone could be the only person to have accomplished something and not even know. Of course Price’s record was something realized later and meant something to him. For many people setting a record is a way of being remembered.
