Are There Poisonous Frogs in Canada
Are There Poisonous Frogs in Canada – Have you ever wondered whether or not there are poisonous frogs hiding among the trees of Canada? I know this sounds like somewhat of a ridiculous question, but it’s an interesting one nonetheless.
I love learning about animals, so posed with this question, I was eager to do a little research. Most frogs and toads, as it turns out, carry mild toxins. All toads have large poison glands behind their eyes on their head. Other frogs contract poisons from the insects they eat.
Are There Poisonous Frogs in Canada
Now, this means that there are mildly poisonous toads in Canada, but nothing like certain species of frogs in South America and Australia. There are toxic species in these parts with poisons can cause everything from hallucinations, consultants, nerve poisons, to vasoconstrictors.
As a general rule of thumb, remember that poisonous frogs wear their toxicity level in their bright colors. The crazier their skin colors, the more of a chance they are poisonous. You’ll never have to worry about these kinds of frogs in Canada, however.
Apparently the diversity of frog toxins has given them the reputation to be “natural pharmacies”. The poison from poison dart frogs is apparently a painkiller 200 times more powerful than morphine. Other chemicals taken from frog’s skin has proven to be resistant to HIV infection.
Forest, the other contributing writer of Frugal Zeitgeist, recently relocated to New Zealand which is an incredible place for biodiversity. I’m somewhat fascinated with the wildlife that he’s going to be encountering. Which got me thinking about the following natural life questions…
How Chameleons Change Colour
The chameleon apparently doesn’t change its colour to match its environment nor does it have endless rainbow hues to show off. It can change its :
“several cell layers beneath its transparent skin. These layers are the source of the chameleon’s color change. Some of the layers contain pigments, while others just reflect light to create new colors.”
Most Venomous Snake
The ten most venomous snakes in the world all live in Australia, and the most venomous snake of all is the Inland Taipan.
Treating Jellyfish Stings
The following are steps you need to follow if you get stung by a jellyfish:
1) Get out of the water.
2) Remove all of the jellyfish tentacle.
3) Rinse with seawater, not fresh water!
4) Inactivate the toxin in the venom with vinegar, baking soda, meat tenderizer.
5) Follow up with Benadryl.
Worlds Largest Horse
Recently the Guinness Book of World Records stated that “Big Jake” a Clydesdale from Texas was the world’s largest horse at 20 hands tall!
If you love animals, hopefully you found some of this information interesting and entertaining. If you’re worried about poisonous frogs in Canada, never fear! The chances of you meeting up with one are fairly slim. Still, it’s a good idea to not eat toads nor brightly colored frogs. Just keep that in mind…
