With all the ups and downs in the current economy it’s getting hard to really judge the best cities for jobs but it’s definitely something worth considering heavily if you are looking to relocate within State or somewhere completely new. You may also be desperate for employment and like many a person used to, it could be worth upping and moving to a place where getting gainful employment is a much easier business. Luckily there are some places in USA where you help may still be required!
In this article we will take a brief look at the best cities for jobs in a few key fields and any other relevant info.
College towns, a good general place to start….
It appears that recent articles and data have been putting the prizes on many college town throughout the USA. These towns tend to have a smaller economy but a lot of qualified and nearly qualified people hanging around. They tend to be a little cheaper to live than industry based towns and hold a mixed bag of employment. Even though unemployment is low though it’s often low pay jobs that are available as students tend to offer cheap labor!
Top 5 lowest unemployment states
Towns and cities within the States housing the lowest unemployment figures are also a great place to start looking. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the lowest unemployment States are as follows (adjusted July 2010):
- NORTH DAKOTA - 3.6%
- SOUTH DAKOTA - 4.4
- NEBRASKA - 4.7
- NEW HAMPSHIRE - 5.8
- VERMONT - 6.0
North Dakota’s has an amazing low unemployment rate but with it’s biggest industry being agriculture it may not be the State for you and even it’s cities are not very big at all with Fargo only holding around 95k people.
Where are the jobs happening?
All I can say is I am hearing great things about Texas, especially for technology both green and general computer stuff. I hear the cost of living is affordable in Austin, it’s a great place to live and jobs are not as hard to come by as in other States. However the Stats don’t show Austin as the place with the most jobs but it is being talked about a lot.
Indeed.com have a great job trends chart showing which cities have the most job postings per 1000 people. According to their chart San Jose in California, Washington DC, Baltimore in Maryland, Hartford in Connecticut and Seattle in Washington are the top 5 cities where the jobs are at least being posted. Austin, Texas is actually no6 so pretty high on the list.
