Best Hybrids 2012

There are many new 2011/2012 hybrids and they could be one of the best cars to purchase if looking for a new vehicle.

Best Hybrids 2012I’m really liking the way Hybrids are shaping up and while they may not yet be the most frugal type of car to purchase more and more used models are reaching the market and bringing down the general price. However they do work out great on the gas spending and are old enough technology now to be reliable without too many recalls or glitches. 2011 / 2012 is a great year for new models and styles from almost all the major car companies.

So what is the best of these models? FuelEconomy.gov, always a very useful resource, listed some good info regarding EPA MPG estimates for combined, city and highway in their section on new and upcoming hybrids. The price ranges are quite wide but for those who need a luxury or even and SUV hybrid options are now available.

Lexus CT 200h 2011 - Compact Car – Combined: 40 City: 43 Highway: 42 - $28,900

Lincoln MKZ Hybrid FWD 2011 – Midsize Car – Combined: 39 City: 41 Highway: 36 – $34,330

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2011 – Midsize Car – Combined: 37 City: 35 Highway: 40 – $25,795

Honda CR-Z (automatic transmission) 2011 – Two-Seater – Combined: 37 City: 35 Highway: 39 – $19,850

Honda CR-Z (manual transmission) 2011 – Two-Seater – Combined: 34 City: 31 Highway: 37 – $19,200

Infiniti M35h 2012 – Midsize Car – Combined: 29 City: 27 Highway: 32 – $53,900

Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid 2011 – Sport Utility Vehicle (4WD) – Combined: 24 City: 20 Highway: 21 – $50,000

Porche Cayenne S Hybrid 2011 – Sport Utility Vehicle (4WD) – Combined: 23 City: 21 Highway: 25 – $67,700

BMW ActiveHybrid 7 2011 – Midsize Car – Combined: 20 City: 17 Highway: 26 – $102,300

BMW ActiveHybrid 7L 2011 – Midsize Car – Combined: 20 City: 17 Highway: 26 – $106,200

I think the Lexus from Toyota looks great and is coming in a much more affordable price too, especially for the mileage you can pull from that little machine! The luxuries are not for me but I am sure they are fast finding their market and I am glad the car companies are taking that side of the spending pool seriously.

Best Hybrids 2012

Do you think 2012 / 2013 will be the year we start to see the hybrid as a more normal car and gas as more and more obscure or do we have a good 10-15 years to wait for that? Are you eyeing up a new hybrid or any kind of fuel efficient vehicle (yes a push bike counts!)? Do you have any other thoughts or comments to add?

Thank you for reading and I look forward to your interaction.

That Lexus hybrid looks NICE! It is pretty expensive, but it’s still cheaper than many SUVs.
From your list, it looks like the German automaker didn’t really get the point of hybrid…

The major shortcoming of a hybrid is the cost of replacing the batteries 8 years out. Until the price for that comes down, I think hybrids will always be a novelty.

Very good point! I don’t think novelty will be their future. Battery tech is growing very fast.

Where is the Prius? I drive the 2010 Prius V.
Bluetooth streaming Audio, JBL stereo, hands free phone. Heated seats.. Navigation.. power everything. We LOVE It.
We get between 49 and 60 MPG’s. Where is the mention of this car? Oh well. We can go 500 miles on 10 gallons of Gas. I work at a Toyota Store. We take Prius’s in with more than 200K miles on them. The tech’s test them to see how the battery packs are holding up. There’s not one single Prius that has needed a new battery pack from wear and tear.

Hey Royal Palm, it wasn’t included because I couldn’t find a new one for 2012, I may be wrong though.

Oh thanks for the battery information.
