Opinions on the best places to live…
When looking at places to live there are a million ways to decide what is best and it varies wildly from person to person. Seeing as Frugal Zeitgeist is about living frugal for the now I am going to look at some places where you can live on a modest budget and get a comfortable standard of living. To me these are the best places to live.
I have only spent time in the North end of USA is beautiful and everything but there is no doubting it can be a little pricey. The mid seems to give the best value for living but it’s really some places in the South that provide a great standard for your bucks. Florida and Beverly Hills is great and everything but realistically out of reach for a normal person.
Is Texas the best place to live in USA?
I want to focus on Texas. I have never been there myself but I really do want to. I hear time after time from my readers that Texas has it all and in a budget. Jobs, low cost of living, entertainment, night life and beauty. The state is huge too so there is a large variation in types of places.
I have a popular article on the Texas and it’s possible being one of the cheapest places to live and recently a reader contributed and excellent guest post on the cost of living in Texas….
From my reckoning for nightlife, general cost of living and coolness Austin is the place to be and is possibly the best place to live in Texas.
Egypt, a possible contender for one of the best places to live, if…..
I live in Egypt and before I get into this I don’t want to downplay how much poverty there is here and how hard it is for a local to live. Also being a young female you need thick skin or you need to enjoy men ogling you whenever you walk outside (I know, no one likes this!). However if you are a man or thick skinned woman there really is so much here.
It’s sunny all year round, although the summer is a little too hot. Some of the most amazing history ever is on your door steps. Just imagine, I get to go to the great pyramid anytime I want, Sweet!!!! The cost of living and bang for your buck is awesome if you are sensible and stick to Egyptian businesses and opportunities. For foreigners there are a lot of jobs paying near American wage, and that goes extremely far here!
I have spent time snorkeling down in one of the most beautiful dive sights of the world, relaxing on beautiful private beaches and swimming with tropical fish on the weekend. Egypt lacks some things like a top quality restaurant scene and easy to obtain foreign alcohol (the Egyptian stuff is ok) but overall it really could be one of the best places to live. Read my post about a Budget Vacation to Egypt just to get a taste.
What about Europe?
Europe is a big place and cost of living is not exactly rock bottom but if you have cash you can grab a property in beautiful surroundings at a steal right now. The south of France and Spain are unbeatable for those wanting the good life and considering places like Greece right now is a great idea. For those who are more city led and artsy places like Berlin offer an experience like no other and you will always be a short flight away from skiing, beaching, golfing and everything you can imagine!
I want your opinions on the Philippines, Thailand and South America…
I hear so much about South America, The Philippines, Thailand and other places like this. I would love to know if you have more info and if you have lived or visited any contenders for the best places to live.
Thanks for reading.
