There are many things about being single that can lead to some of the best times of your life. Sure, there are some lonely moments in your singledom, but with a positive attitude and a penchant for adventure, you can have an incredible journey until you’re next relationship.

Being single (especially if you’ve just come out of a long term relationship) can be somewhat daunting if you let it be. As social creatures we’re prone to depending on the various relationships in our lives when trying to get by. Once you’re single, your life is entirely you’re own– that’s a lot of freedom. It might feel like a bad thing at first, but with a little perspective you’ll realize the potential for it to become an amazing experience.

Let’s look at some of the positive aspects of being single.

You Have Time for Self-Reflection

When you’re dating someone you are often living parallel to them. It’s difficult to separate what you want from yourself from what you want with that person. When you’re single you can really take some time to decide what you want with your life. You have the ultimate gift of not being tied down, which means your life is in our own hands. It’s the best time to begin steering your life towards the direction you want it to go in.

You Have Time with Friends

Often times when you’re in a relationship you see a lot less of your friends. We’ve all been there. It’s way more comfortable to sit on the couch with your beloved then go out to a bar with your buds. When you’re single you can have fun. There’s nothing stopping you from staying out all night, talking to whoever you’d like, and being around your friends.

You Have Time to Travel

Arranging trips for two can be difficult. There are probably things you’ve always wanted to do or see that you couldn’t with your significant other. Once you’re single you can go anywhere and do anything you like. There’s nothing holding you back from subletting your apartment, quitting your job and just going. Okay, you don’t have to do anything so dramatic– but being single is essentially one big opportunity to see new parts of the world.

These are just some of best things you can enjoy while single. Some of the favorite moments  of my life have been when I was on my own. Never look at being single as though there’s something wrong with you, instead look at it as a time for self improvement and fun that will lead to your next relationship.
