Biggest Eating Day of the Year

Biggest Eating Day of the Year - What would you think is the biggest eating day of the year? Christmas is a good guess, the Superbowl, where an average feast costs about 4500 calories is another good guess but it isn’t these. Of course it is Thanksgiving.
Biggest Eating Day of the Year
I dont know where the numbers come from but doing the research I can find most references say that the biggest eating day of the year is Thanksgiving. I assume it means the most mass of food and likely the most calories.
I must admit I use it as an excuse to absolutely stuff my face. I’m vegetarian and with the sweet sweet potatoes, buttered veg and heavy carbs plus desert I know I am throwing down a sickening amount of calories and sugar and all things bad.
How many calories in a Thanksgiving meal?
According to this article on LiveStrong the average Thanksgiving meal is around 3000 calories with the Turkey and all the trimmings. The days eating comes to a whopping 4500 calories something that would take a 160 lb man around 6 hours to run off!
Why do we end up consuming so much? Eating all those calories in one day is just greedy but we all let loose and do it. Well not all of us but many of us.
I really want to stop this behaviour. I enjoy food but moderation is fine and I am good with that the rest of the year, even around Christmas. Thanksgiving is still new to me because I am a Brit and have only indulged the last few years. I went along with the flow and got into the same bad habit. I can’t justify it!
Just small changes in the habits of what you eat including portion control and using modified recipes can help make Thanksgiving a just slightly bigger eating day than a general large friend and family gathering.
With the Superbowl coming up and being the second biggest eating day of the year I suggest you think twice and make that a more moderate day too. Your intestines and belly will thank you for it.
So do you think it is ok to way over-indulge on these days or should you be watching what you consume? Do you take any steps to not let these days blow your healthy eating?
