I love going to the movies, I know it is terribly un-frugal of me, especially since some movie theatres are around $15 a pop these days. Throw in more pop and popcorn and you are looking at having to remortgage your property to catch Johnny Depp’s pimples up close!

But where there is a will there is a deal and in Canada it seems Tuesday is the most likely day for that.

Cheap Movie Tuesday’s have been around across a wide range of cinema’s in Canada pretty much forever. In fact I think cinemas were invented so they could make use of the invention of Cheap Movie Tuesday (maybe not?). In recent years however the deal has fragmented, gone underground and in some places been forgotten about all together but it is still relatively easy to find.

I think, Canada wide, that Cineplex still has their Telus Tuesday deal where you can get a 1/2 price ticket (may need to ask) or a combo deal with 1/2 price drink and popcorn.

Other cinemas such as Major Players still have a tuesday deal and I am sure some of the other theatre owners follow suit.

So how do you take advantage of Cheap Movie Tuesday?

Simple really, give your local cinema(s) a call and ask “do you do cheap movie tickets on Tuesday’s?” If the answer is yes then find out how much they are. I am sure 90% of Canadian cinema’s still have a deal on this day but whilst you are there you might as well find out about any other deals such as matinee showings or free preview screenings that you can get onto a list for.

The only big downside, as far as I can see, of Cheap Movie Tuesday is that it can be really busy, especially for new films, so get there early or watch something that has been out a few weeks.

Of course it’s always cheapest to stay at home with a DVD and some home popped corn but sometimes it’s nice to get out.

Orange Wednesdays in the UK

Whilst I am on the subject, if you are visiting the UK then remember that you can get a deal like Cheap Movie Tuesdays on Wednesdays. You will have to ask someone with who used Orange for their cell phone or broadband to get you a code for 2for1 wednesday cinema tickets. You can also get 2for1 pizza deals for afterwards at the yummy Pizza Express.
