Cheap Wrapping Paper Tip: Old Printer Paper

Posted on by in Saving Money & Finances

It was a friends birthday last friday and we had two small gifts to wrap for her. Wrapping paper is one of those sad things we have invented, and that has become the norm, that is normally just thrown away. A waste of money and resources!

So using some recycled materials to create some cheap wrapping paper is always a good option. I have previously used newspaper, cheap recycled brown packing paper and saved wrapping paper.

Last week we used the paper from the discarded pile next to our printer. I think it turned out pretty well and I shall be doing this again.

Cheap Wrapping Paper

As you can see, this design features some printer alignment prints and some misprinted gender studies essays :) .

The ribbon was saved from some Valentines chocolates.

I hope you enjoyed this tip, please let me know what you think?

Thanks.

  1. Gift bags are a huge thing for kids’ birthday parties anymore around here. I don’t think I’ve ever bought one b/c I just reuse the ones we’ve been given. Tissue paper, too.

We also always have tons of brown paper bags in the house, and I like to cut those out flat and have the kids draw on them, preferably with colorful markers, which makes much better wrapping paper IMO. More personal, too!

If only everyone was sensible enough to keep all this stuff!! The brown paper works awesome enough by itself and being drawn on is a very nice touch :)

Great tip! D and I use newspaper to wrap gifts, particularly the free alternative weekly paper. It costs nothing! And it’s usually visual appealing.

I like your idea better though. Then you’re saving paper that would otherwise be thrown away! I’ll start keeping a stash of paper at work now. :)

I think both are good ideas and it’s worth saving paper whenever you can and finding a use. Reuse is better for the environment that recycling.

For some reason it just popped into my head about how I tried to make my own recycled paper as a kid my soaking stripped newspaper for days and then laying it out flat on a baking sheet…. it didn’t work but I guess paved the way for my frugal ways :) …. I may have to try that again :)
