Cities With Lowest Cost of Living

If your job is portable or you work in an industry that is nationwide, or even better you are retired (see my post: Cheapest Places To Retire In USA) then it may be a simple act of looking for the cities with the lowest cost of living to give you the best life and best way of using your hard earned money.
There are also other considerations and a cheap city alone is not always enough. Cost of living is very important but so is safety, weather, transport conditions and closeness to family and loved ones. If you parents are in Vermont, moving to Texas may not be the best option!
I have written quite a few posts now about where to live for cheap in the USA. As shown in Cheapest Places to Live and Cheapest Places to Live in America many of the cheapest places are found in the Mid States and Southern States, Kansas, Texas and a few others around there are pointed out for being very affordable across the board but they often do have very low Minimum Wage.
Research by the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center in 2009 cited these states as the top 5 cheapest states in USA: Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Nebraska, so they are all great places to start.
It’s also worth noting that mid USA downwards is generally free from snow so seriously bad winters do not happen. However some places are within Hurricane territory and extreme heat so be careful when choosing.
If you look at my articles with the tag lowest cost of living city you will find a more specific article looking at living in Topeka and how it is possible to live in a place like this on a very low budget.
I hope this article was helpful.
Thanks for reading and good luck finding your city from the cities with the lowest cost of living.
