Common Vacation Complaints
Vacations are supposed to be times to relax, forget about the worries of the world and wile away the days drinking cocktails and hanging in a hammock or exploring amazing wonders of the world. Of course sadly it’s often the case that a holiday destination has some aches and pains for you to deal with that arise to you airing some common vacation complaints.
So what are those common vacation complaints? Here are a few…
- The flight was delayed
- The flight was too cramped
- The airport was miles from the destination and we had to get public transport
- The hotel was miles from a town or a beach
- There were no ATM’s nearby
- There were no restaurants or supermarkets nearby
- The buffet breakfast is disgusting
- There are stains on the carpet
- There are stains on the bed sheets
- I am getting bites in my sleep (could be bedbugs, ahhhhhh)
- There are cockroaches and mosquitos
- No taxis or transport available at night
- It isn’t all inclusive as advertised
- Everything is overpriced
- The room isn’t secure
- The staff are rude
- Nobody speaks English
- Loud noises or construction
- The pool is cold and / or dirty
- Too many kids around!
These are just a few of the common complaints, some are fine to complain about in my eyes, some not so much (such as people not speaking english or kids being around). Going on holiday can be strenuous when you don’t get the dream vacation you have been counting down the days for but even when things don’t quite work out your way and you have to complain I think you need to keep yourself relaxed and calm and complain through the proper channels.
First I would call the people who arranged your holiday if you booked a package and nicely demand things get fixed right away. If no joy is found there then I would contact the hotel or property owner (if that is the issue) and if things just can’t be fixed that easily (such as being in the middle of nowhere) try and make new arrangements for yourself in a relaxed manner. Even with problems you need to keep your stress down and enjoy as much of it as you can.
Crazy Vaction Complaints
Now a lot of common complaints are legit and they occur regularly enough that most of us will encounter them at some point however some holiday makers are way over the top with the things they consider a disturbance to their holiday! These crazy complaints from the Telegraph article “20 ridiculous complaints made by holidaymakers” made me laugh so I though I would share them with you.
- A tourist at a top African game lodge overlooking a waterhole, who spotted a visibly aroused elephant, complained that the sight of this rampant beast ruined his honeymoon by making him feel “inadequate”.
- “The beach was too sandy.”
- “Topless sunbathing on the beach should be banned. The holiday was ruined as my husband spent all day looking at other women.”
- “We bought ‘Ray-Ban’ sunglasses for five euros (£3.50) from a street trader, only to find out they were fake.”
- “No-one told us there would be fish in the sea. The children were startled.”
- “There are too many Spanish people. The receptionist speaks Spanish. The food is Spanish. Too many foreigners.”
- “We found the sand was not like the sand in the brochure. Your brochure shows the sand as yellow but it was white.”
- “I was bitten by a mosquito – no-one said they could bite.”
- “I think it should be explained in the brochure that the local store does not sell proper biscuits like custard creams or ginger nuts.”
- “It’s lazy of the local shopkeepers to close in the afternoons. I often needed to buy things during ‘siesta’ time – this should be banned.”
- “On my holiday to Goa in India, I was disgusted to find that almost every restaurant served curry. I don’t like spicy food at all.”
