Company facing job cut, woman fires herself – Lola Gonzalez, crazy?

Lola Gonzalez was the owner of a company called Accurate Background Check in Ocala, Fla and when she was recently faced with the tough decision of letting a member of staff go she could not face it, so she ended up firing herself! The six remaining employees have been given ownership of the company and Lola has moved onto other pastures but will be providing free help to her previous company. Lola’s new job is half her previous six figure salary but she is happy with her decision and has not ruled out returning to her old company when things are looking up in a few years.

This kind of decision makes you ask if she is crazy or just hated her job. She says that she has faith in the new owners to keep the company going and that she loved her old job but is happy with the new one for the meantime. If everything is to be believed then this was a true sacrifice and she obviously took it because she could afford to take it.

Her decision could be seen as a really stupid move if the owners now make a mess of things and don’t pull the company through. 7 people could end up out of work instead of just one if she was needed to run the company more than she realised and she could end up kicking herself for what was a seemingly selfless act. Let’s hope her trust is justified and she made the right business decision.

If you could afford such a sacrifice, would you make it?

Be you liberal, conservative or whatever we generally all share the same ideal (just disagree how to get to it) and want everyone to be well in the end. The thing is in testing times we can turn on our selfish gene no matter how generous we are and self preservation is something we don’t see as a terrible thing. Assuming I could afford it I think I would make this sacrifice but I have no idea if my thinking would be a reality as tough times calls for tough decisions.
