Driving Mistakes We All Do

Driving Mistakes We All Do – As much as we’d all like to think that we’re fabulous at driving, there are certainly mistakes that seem to be somewhat universal. Sure, we’re all quick to get angry at the other “bad drivers” on the road, but have you ever stopped to wonder whether or not you could change what happens behind the wheel?

I’ve found in myself (and other drivers I know) habits that have grown over the years that really should be corrected. As much as it’s a pain, I think it’s important to really try to figure out whether or not there are any driving mistakes that have become habits to you and attempt to correct them. Easier said than done, I know…

Driving Mistakes We All Do

Here’s a list of some of the most common driving mistakes we all do.

Not Coming to a Full Stop

So many of us are in a rush and don’t come to a complete stop at stop signs. Not only does this make you incredibly vulnerable for a ticket, but it also breeds carelessness that can lead to an accident.

Speeding

It’s hard to go the speed limit when you’re late– but speeding is a bad habit that can lead to many tickets and dangerous accidents during inclement weather.

Overcorrecting

Once you hit a bump or swerve, it’s common for many people to panic attempt to overcorrect with the steering wheel– but this can make the situation worse! As someone who learned how to drive in crazy snow and ice, I can say that overcorrecting can leave you in a ditch or towards an oncoming car.

Coasting in the Wrong Lane

This is one of my pet peeves– I have friends who coast in the left hand (passing!) lane at 65 miles an hour and do not understand that it’s forcing other people to pass on the right side. It’s dangerous and wrong. If you’re going slower or really just the speed limit, stay in the right lane.

Driving with the Emergency Brake On

Sadly, this has happened to me multiple times and I won’t notice until the burning smell starts. Check to make sure your parking break isn’t on before you leave home!

Check Your Mirrors

Checking your mirrors before you leave is incredibly important to your safety. Someone else could have changed them before leaving, so make sure that they work for you and you can see all of your blind spots.

Talking on the Phone

This is the ultimate mistake. If you need to talk on the phone then make sure you have a bluetooth or headphone and whatever you do  DON’T TEXT AND DRIVE.
