Happiness Money Proceedings of the National Academy of SciencesWould $75,000 per year make you happy? Happiness = Money ,Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences seem to think so.

In Tuesdays edition of the National Academy of Sciences from Princeton university findings from research was releases that suggests that happiness increases as you earn more but that happiness factor levels out at around $75,000 a year. I guess it does not mean that you get more unhappy after that but your happiness level stays constant. The research says that feelings of success rise with money beyond that figure.

Happiness Money Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences concludes that $75k is the peak of happiness?

In some ways you could read that $75k per year is the absolute peak of happiness. Of course research is always a kind of average and for many money can bring misery as you get greedy and self involved. Others will always want more and more so this figure will just be another stop gap on the way up to the top.

The research was conducted on 450,000 American people in 2008/2009 for the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index and was done so by asking questions about daily life and overall happiness / satisfaction.

I think the results are interesting but obviously not conclusive and the dependence of your happiness runs on so many more things than money.

I used to earn near to $70k per year and I can honestly say I am happier now on far less money. However I am in a loving relationship, have my debt in control (I know I should have never had debt!) and am not confined to a cubicle with my job. My constant by small stepped journey towards minimalism is also greatly helping to keep my mind happy and clear.

However my money s rising as my own business gets more successful and this is bringing me as an individual increased happiness so i you have you life sorted from a relationship stand point I am sure you are much happier.

I would also like to know how many super millionaires are lonely as hell due to the fear that friends are not real friends. I wonder if the survey could be extended to the super rich to find out at what figure the happiness factor may actually start to drop.

The results of the survey also interestingly managed to help place USA as the 9th happiest country behind others such as New Zealand, Canada, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

So now I want to know what arbitrary money value would make you happy ;) . Also what are the major factors that result in your own happiness and how have you managed to achieve them?
