HOLIDAY ORGANIZING TRICKSHoliday organizing tricks to help you relax stress free this holiday

You don’t have long left now until things really kick off for the holiday and if you manage to keep well organized and on top of your game come Christmas day you will be able to sit back with a glass of mulled wine and enjoy the day getting things done in a relaxed and care free way. I know this sounds like a dream but all it takes is a little planning.

My holiday organizing tricks

1. List everything – It is important that you know exactly what you need to do. So sit down and spend an hour or two listing everything that needs to be done. Cross reference a large wall calendar and mark all tasks on there too. Then reorganise and move things around until they are in the most efficient order and ready to be attacked.

2. Don’t be lazy now - It’s easy to start relaxing now and then last minute panic but you will hate yourself for it. Give yourself  a pep talk and work through the next week to really kill some of the tasks on the list. Get ahead of schedule and be ready for the holiday book and wine or beer in hand!

3. Get help – Santa has helpers so you deserve some too. Don’t try and be Super{man|woman|person} and do everything yourself. If you husband is kicking back with a beer or wife kicking back with a hot rum get them off their lazy ass and in the kitchen, garden, to the store or whatever is needed. You need to make use of everyone including the kids.

4. Talk to everyone – If you have guests coming or are going places then make sure you contact everyone early to see exactly what is happening, if they need help, if they can help you and just have a relaxing chin wag too. Let them know how organized you are being and ask them for any tricks or tips. They will be busy too so the motivation will be good for everyone.

5. Simplify - It’s easy to get carried away with doing everything in a complicated way but if you have a lot to organise it is best to cut back to basics on everything. Don’t go making massive dishes you have never tried before, don’t decide that you are going to hand make blown glass tree ornaments. Keep it simple and stick to what you know at this late stage. Then next year you can start earlier for more complex things next holiday if you really want.

Our lives don’t change too much during the holiday season. We like to relax and keep things simple. Fortunately, our families don’t do lots of gift exchanges, which is okay with me!

Hey Barb, that’s pretty cool and I am totally up for not exchanging many gifts. The over spending side of the holidays is what makes me sick especially when people are throwing it all on credit cards.
