How to Save on Fine Jewellery Purchases

Posted by Forest in General Articles

Every lady loves to have fine jewelery lavished upon her, especially if it is bought by someone she loves or who thinks very highly of her. Christmas, birthdays, valentines, anniversaries these are the usual times when jewellery purchases are made, and it is delightful to unwrap a beautifully wrapped box containing something bright and sparkling.

For most of us the biggest jewelery purchase that we are involved with is the purchase of an engagement ring, but is it possible to have a good quality piece of jewellery at a reasonable price. The world of shopping has been opened up in recent years through the Internet, but how many of us would trust the Internet to make such a special and expensive purchase.

Recent years have seen an increase in the number of online jewellery sellers and it is very possible to buy beautiful designer jewelery online. When buying jewellery online reputation is very important and most people look for reviews or recommendations before making a purchase. Many modern, contemporary jewellery designers are using the Internet to bring their collections to the public and raise their profile. Many online jewelery designers will take private commissions and design bespoke pieces at reasonable prices.

There are other ways to save on jewelery purchases, some jewelers have wholesale outlets and it is possible to buy fine jewelery such as engagement rings, and wedding bands in these types of outlets. The jewelery is of the best quality but the prices are much more affordable, however not everyone has access to a wholesale outlet.

Another very accessible means to purchasing jewelery is in auction houses, most large towns and cities have an auction house. Auction houses may be selling off bankrupt or surplus stock therefore it is quite possible to pick up a real bargain. Also auction houses are a great place to pick up antique or second hand jewellery, it is possible to find beautiful pieces of jewelery that have perhaps been bequeaths and the beneficiary would rather have the money, or perhaps someone needs to liquidate some assets and bargains may be available.

It is still possible to pick up good quality jewellery on the high streets, jewelery shops seem to have a nearly permanent sale and the quality of the jewellery is the same but at reduced prices. Recently there has been an increase in the number of shops that accept goods in return for cash, if the cash is not repaid then the items are sold on; these are always worth a look when buying jewelery.

Catalogue stores now seem to be selling large ranges of jewelery, good quality stones in beautiful settings; it is amazing how some stores can sell heavy duty gold at very low prices. Gold is now at a high price so bargains may become scarce but it does pay to shop around.

Another means to saving on jewellery is to purchase it abroad, although there may be duty to pay when bringing it back into the country. Jewellery purchases like all large and expensive purchase should be well thought out and all the options considered before handing over any cash.
