Ideas For Hand Crafting Inexpensive Wedding Invitations
Posted on by Forest in Saving Money & Finances
In our previous post on Inexpensive Wedding Invitations Sue wrote a few ideas for hand crafting the invites and how it could lead to save a lot of money. The word Wedding quite simply means “kerching” in the eyes of many retailers and you will often find invitations featuring this golden word to be way, way overpriced. So why not look at having the ultimate personal invites and hand craft each one. If you don’t have time I am sure a crafty friend would lend a hand.
1. Embossed Parchment Invitations
In the previous post Sue mentioned that her wedding invites had been created by embossing parchment. This is basically rubbing paper on the reverse with a few craft tools to raise it on the side you want displayed… and it looks great. A simple introduction tutorial can be found here: Introduction to Embossing Parchment.
2. Using dried and pressed flowers
Even a very simple piece of folded high grade card can be made to look quite professional by adding small touches. One or two little dried flowers could make your inexpensive wedding invitations spring to life. This method could take a little planning as flowers may take a while to dry but it’s very personal and can look fantastic. About.com offer advice on drying and pressing flowers.
3. A handwritten letter
Instead of the standard invite, how about you just hand write each person a letter, formally inviting them to your celebration, along with some personal words. Just for fun as them to reply by letter too. You could add a fancy calligraphy capital letter on the first sentence or stick on some cool little pics or stylized designs to each letter if you want some zing.
4. Simple text and a photo
Most computers come with some basic word processing software or some graphic software that you can use to put some nice simple text along with a personal photograph. You can buy some nice quality craft paper that is printer friendly and print some very professional looking but personal invites here. Even consider using a different photo for each relative or friend, especially if you have any from well remembered events in your past.
5. Ecard / Video invite
Why not go the green route and deliver an ecard to all people on your list with an email address. Ask for replies by email and save all the paper. You could design something yourself or even a graphic designer to create a nice professional ecard to send around. Take it one step further and you could send a personal video to each member of you family. You can privately upload to YouTube and give them the private URL.
6…. Your Ideas for inexpensive wedding invitations
The possibilities to save money on your invites, yet still have a professional feel are endless and it’s more about creativity than anything else. I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
