Improve Your Mood At Work
Improve Your Mood At Work
If you’re feeling like the stress from work is dragging you down, chances are you need to take some sort of action to improve your mood. It’s easy to feel annoyed, angry or even depressed at the office and more often than not those feelings are completely justifiable. You could be stuck in a negative environment, surrounded by difficult co-workers or even have the worst boss in the world.
It’s important to not let all of that bad-office junk sink your spirits, however. Not only is it too easy to take those feelings home with you, but it also affects your work. If the quality of your work is suffering then you’re not going to get the recognition you deserve and it will be harder for you to get a job elsewhere.
Improve Your Mood At Work
Besides, a good mood is contagious. If you are positive and happy at work, your co-workers may follow suit. The entire environment could change as a result, improving the hours of 9-5 of your life on the daily.
So, how can you improve your mood without turning to medication?
Change Your Perception.
Okay, this one is easier said than done. Still, it’s important to learn how to put things into perspective. Work is awful, but is there a way of not focusing on the awfulness? Writers are aware of the law of tragedy/comedy and that they are really the same thing with a different perspective. If you can focus on the best parts of the day or find humor in the stress then you’ll be much better off.
Eat Better
Food is everything. How much energy we have, how we’re feeling, etc. Make sure that you are eating as well as you possibly can. Frozen burritos may not help your mood but lots of fresh fruits, veggies, and protein definitely will. And treating yourself to a frozen yogurt once in awhile can be a nice moral booster in the day.
Get More Sunshine
It’s easy to feel angry or depressed when you’re stuck inside not getting your daily dose of vitamin D! Sunshine is imperative to happiness, which is why you need to make sure you’re spending your lunch break taking a walk or getting one of those little artificial sunlight desk lamps. They’re cheap (starting around $35) and increase your brain’s pleasure hormone serotonin.
Exercise
Exercise gives you an energy boost, helps combat feelings of sluggishness in the long run and makes it easier to focus. It also releases endorphins in your brain making you feel good.
Laugh More
Laughter can cut through any bad mood. Make sure you take some time throughout the day to listen to some standup (on your way to work or maybe on your lunch break), read your favorite hilarious author and make sure you decompress at home with a funny movie or show.
Give Your Desk A Makeover
It doesn’t have to be garish, but consider giving your desk a boost of color. Green and yellow are happy colors that are meant to inspire thoughts of optimism, laughter and money. Also consider placing photos of people you love at your desk as a reminder of the happiness that waits for you in the outside world.
Indulge In Your Home-life
When you’re at home make sure you indulge in all the happiness your home life provides for you. Spend time with your kids, go on a walk with your dog, find time for romance and sex with your partner. All the burdens and trouble of work should be left at the office. Coming to work with the happiness at home will improve your mood as will knowing that you’re going back to it.
It’s important that you don’t let unhappiness consume your life. Be active in your pursuit of improving your mood at work. It’s sure to pay off in the long run both for you personally as well as professionally.
