Infomercial Products That Work

Infomercial Products That Work –  I remember as a kid thinking that American infomercial commercials were the funniest things on TV. In fact I used to get up at 5 in the morning some mornings just to watch them, that is when they were shown on UK television! I always considered them some kind of stupid joke and never believed any items could actually work!

Fast forward to 2009 and a friend convinced me to take on the P90X workout routine. I must say that I didn’t really think it would work but I gave it a go and was blown away. The program is awesome! The thing is, I know I must have been living under a rock, I didn’t find out until way after that it was the product of the world’s most popular infomercial! I know for sure if I had known this I never would have tried it. Off the back of P90X I tried Insanity, another popular Beachbody infomercial, and again I was blown away.

My experiences with these two products changed my view on infomercials. I still find them absolutely hilarious and terribly tacky. I don’t buy products from them but I do look at them with an eye that some of the products may well do 90% of what they claim.

So what products actually work?

Asides from the awesome P90X, Insanity and I am sure other Beachbody workouts, as I said, I don’t buy often so lets look at some other sources for that answer.

Good Morning America’s

An article titled Which Infomercial ‘Miracle’ Products Really Work? picked the Space Saver bag and gave it a B+, the One Touch Can Opener got an A- and the Stick-Up Light Bulb got a B-.

Good Houskeeping

Good Housekeeping had a slide show titled The Best (and Worst) Infomercials! Here are some of their picks.

  • Pasta n’ More
  • Point and Paint (works well for large areas, not details)
  • Magic Jack (but you may want a back-up landline)
  • Mighty Putty – Great for small fixes.
  • ShamWow – Not all it promises but good.

Yahoo Voices

Some picks from the article Some Infomercial Products Actually Work as Advertised:

  • Magic Bullet
  • Suzanne Somers Oven
  • Youthful Essence
  • Bare Minerals
  • Signature Club A
  • Moving Men
  • Joe Campanelli’s Stain Remover
  • Mrs. Prindables Gourmet Apples
  • Flameless Candles

Your picks?

Now, I know you have purchased something, if not many things, from a TV commercial or at least with an As Seen on TV claim. Have any of them worked as amazingly as advertised?

Before buying anything I would do the research and if possible borrow the product from a friend who may have purchased it. Ask around your friends and see what they are saving and don’t open that wallet and impulse shop. These infomercials earn the majority of their money from impulse sales, hence all the great deal trickery and one time call in offers!

Consumer Reports has some great tips in this area.

I’m looking forward to your feedback.

I have to agree with your article. In my mispent youth I spent a fair amount of time , up late watching ridiculous infomercials. In an “altered”..lol state of mind. I purchased the entire gamut of useless products available. The only object i still own is an oreck air machine. which is pretty awesome by the way. not nearly as easy to clean as they show on tv but good none the less. Dont waste your money on crap you dont need. I would gladly take the couple of grand I wasted … ps . SlapChop sucks the worst.
