Insanity Home Workout Rebooted – Week 1
Posted on 13. Apr, 2010 by Forest in Exercise, Health, Insanity, Saving Money & Finances, Uncategorized
I’m back from a break a little shy of 2 weeks. During this break apart from a little snorkelling and a kick trip walking up Mount Sinai, my exericise has been non existant! I have put on about 4lbs (shamful) and drank a ton of alcohol!
So instead of continuing the Insanity workout where I left off I decided yesterday that I would reboot the program and starting again from Day 1.
Just to recap, Insanity is a home workout program hosted by Shaun T. He is annoying as all exercise trainers seem to be but overall does an awesome job of pushing the viewer to work like a dog through the intense cardio workouts.
Insanity basically works on Interval Training… a block of hard work and a quick rest then back to hard work…. it really wears you out!

Compared to my original 3 week result I have fallen behind, however in every case it’s more than my original week 1 results so this round of Insanity is starting on a better foot. My flexibility is also pretty dire too so I will be really pushing in this area.
Let me know if you have completed Insanity or have any intention of trying it, I’ll keep publishing my bi-weekly fit test results for the duration.

Funny–the insanity jumps look a lot like yoga sun salutations. I have no experience with the “insanity’ series, but I once had a friend in Washington State who would force me to do Tai Bo (however you spell it) with her. Usually half the calories I burned and a good portion of the abwork from that came form laughing at myself or the silly video–but when it rains all the time and gets dark early an indoor workout can be a lifesaver.
I do yoga now in bad weather (like when it SNOWS in APRIL!!). It’s a lifesaver and I also found that I’m in pretty good shape even on the first cross country skiing outing or cycling trip. . . So I’m happy.

I love Yoga and if I could afford it I would be going to classes once or twice a week but it’s expensive here in Cairo ($15 a lesson). I was doing Yoga for 6 months in Canada solid and all areas of my fitness strongly benefited.
As for home workouts I find the courses like P90x and Insanity really help to keep me fixed on target, I wish I could find a good Astanga Yoga course to follow!
Insanity borrows a few small things from Yoga but doesn’t grab the full essence.

My wife is doing Insanity at the Y. We have P-90X at home, that I try to do, but just can’t seem to get to it every day. On those days that I miss, I try to use my ski machine for 30 minutes or so.
P-90x does have a yoga dvd that is a killer!!!

Hey Dr Dean,
That’s really cool that they have it at the Y, I was thinking just the other day that they should do that with these Beachbody Courses.
The p90x Yoga is awesome, even if Tony is a bit annoying. I wish I could find a full Yoga course to that level.

Yoga is very dangerous for couch potatoes like me. However, the Wii fit does have some good Yoga poses that I try to master now and again.
I’m not doing too well though.
Best,
Len

Ha ha…. I’m sure if you keep to the Wii fit and force yourself to do it you will eventually get the bug…. Just keep at it

Getting back into exercises after vacation is HARD. I’ve never done Yoga, but I like to run.

Ha ha, yes it always is, but I am doing ok. 30 mins of stretching to fit in at some point today.
As for running, I love it. If you get a chance try and get a Yoga session in once a week for a month, you will be suprised how much it improves your running.
