Make Good of Bad Coffee!

This is a simple little trick I heard of a while back. It sounds weird but apparently there is some reasoning behind it.
Most of us like great coffee but most of us who write and read sites like this also don’t have the cash to shell out. Good coffee is not very frugal.
So if you have some cheap ground coffee you can make it taste a whole lot better by throwing in some washed (pasteurized, to avoid salmonella) egg shells…. crazy I know. It makes the coffee taste a whole lot smoother.
The theory is that it removes the acid from the coffee as the calcium carbonate in the egg shells acts as a filter drawing it out.
Have you ever used this trick?
Do you have any other to make cheap coffee taste better?
