Man Drops 198 Pounds 10 Months
Sometimes it just takes a tiny little thing to change mindset and drastically change one’s path for the better. In the case of a 30 year ol father of 3, Jay Wornick, it was just a bet from his wife that prompted him to lose nearly 200lbs in just 10months.
Jay and his wife Angela started the challenge as a New Years resolution challenge. Angela had thought the idea after trying all sorts of things to get her 366lb husband to get serious about losing his excess weight. The challenge involved the loser getting the others name tattooed on their body!
Angela, licensed practical nurse, was getting increasingly worried about Jay’s chances of heart disease, diabestes and other obesity related illnesses. She had tried to push him but in their time together he had put on over 100lbs with a typical meal involving steak, potatoes and around 12-14 cans of soda a day. It wasn’t uncommon for him to eat things like 2 triple cheese burgers or an extra large pizza. Angela estimated he was eating 7000-8000 calories per day.

So how did he do it and what motivated him?
Angela thought she would win but was hoping it would at least lead to Jay losing a little weight. After the first month, even though he didn’t take it 100% seriously, he had lost 40lbs and with motivation from Angela just kept going.
He cut his diet down to 1500-2000 calories per day and included a lot of high fiber fruit and vegetables. He went to the local YMCA and worked out 6 days a week, saying they were a factor as they were helpful and friendly.

I find this story extremely encouraging and reminds me of small steps that have encouraged change in my life. Changes that have led to me having a healthier lifestyle, spending less and becoming far more minimal. New Year’s isn’t the only time to set challenges but it isn’t a bad one and it’s not long off now so it’s time to get thinking.
So are you going to set a challenge or resolution? What will it be?
