Most Hated Companies Facebook, AA and More….

24/7 Wall St recently compiled a list of the top 10 hated companies in the USA. They based their research on two components. One part the public survey side “public research about consumer satisfaction, customer care, pricing of products and services, and brand impressions” and another “include present earnings, profit forecasts, product development and quality, and brand valuations” to come up with the list that includes many companies that you may well use daily.

So what are the most hated companies?

1. Facebook – Rated terrible customer service and their issues with user privacy.

2. American Airlines – Filing for bankruptcy this airline has been voted the worst for customer service.

3. AT&T – Recent issues with 3g service (mostly solved) and feared Monopoly due to a T-Mobile buy out brought them to the list.

4. Nokia – I almost feel sorry for them! It seems they made the list mainly for not being able to keep up with the market.

5. Goldman Sachs – Bailout and Fraud, need I say more!

6. Best Buy – Not able to keep up with Amazon and telling customers they wouldn’t get their orders 2 days before xmas didn’t help the company that some predict will suffer a slow decline!

7. Bank of America – Layoffs, bad service and announced (then reversed) fees.

8. Johnson & Johnson – A series of recall after recall has seriously affected the companies trust and standing.

9. Sears – Sadly Sears may have seen its day and the company could be going the way of Woolworths as it loses its grip on the modern retail market.

10. Netflix – I almost feel sorry for them. Small fee rises, growing competition and messed up movie deals. They once ruled the roost but will find 2012 to be an incredibly tough year.

I don’t inherently hate anything, it is a strong word to use but I do hold a generally dislike for any large company, even Apple for my own personal reasons. That doesn’t mean that I don’t use companies for things. I use Facebook, I have a prepaid AT&T phone and I have flown American Airlines, with no problems.

However looking at this list and just realising that money being the central driving factor for each and every one on it makes you realise how much better off you would be by finding smaller alternative if at all possible. I know it doesn’t work in all cases but you can find a smaller bank, rent movies from a local video store and do a lot of things that will scale back your use of the largest corps. You’ll generally find much better customer satisfaction and I think your cash will go to better use.

    Great list!

    AA is so deceiving- I tried to use their points one time and you basically need 1,000,000 points to fly to Vancouver from Seattle lol…

    The hate received by AA is well-deserved. I don’t so much hate them as strongly detest them, and avoid flying on it like the plague.

    In no time Netflix should come up on the top of the list. AA is going through a massive restructuring to trim the fat. I am sure they’ll no longer be at the top in a year from now.
