I don’t need to tell anybody that getting anything stolen, let alone a car, sucks big time! many reports have said that over a million cars a year are stolen in the USA and although many are due to the keys being left in the car or doors being left in a lot are full on break ins by experienced criminals. It is a sad reality that a determined and experienced thief will likely be able to break into and steal almost any vehicle that they want but there are a lot of things you can do to make their job harder and hopefully deter them from bothering all together.

Of course you need to make sure you have a decent alarm, have your car serial number registered. It helps to display this on the windows with a sticker, often supplied by the companies and you can have your VIN number etched on the windows.

On top of the standard protection of alarm here are some ideas for extra steps you can take.

Install a good well reviewed wheel lock.
Look at getting additional break and tyre lots.
Keep all items out of view at all times.
Install a battery disconnect switch so they engine cannot be started at any cost.
Consider having a baby alarm or even web cam system (reactive to noise and movement) set up in the car.
Park in well lit places or in your garage, an attended garage, if there are CCTV cameras around that could help.

Park next to a better car!
Park in a ‘high-crime’ area. The police are always there and people don’t want to attract more attention by breaking into cars!
Downgrade and get a terrible ugly car!
