Before I start I am not advocating for the use of alcohol however a lot of recent studies have shown that a small amount of red wine may be good for your health. So why not enjoy a small drink to your health? Like anything is live striking a balance and moderation generally means you can have the good things for longer.
Wine has been around for centuries and the oldest evidence suggest that Georgia and Iran were producing this fermented grape drink as early as 6000 BC and evidence in Europe dating back to 4500 BC. That is a staggering long time for a beverage to stay popular.
More recently Wine and Alcohol as a whole has been under attack because of increasing overuse by people in general. Alcohol is addictive so the advice to be responsible should be seriously heeded. If however you do enjoy just say half a small glass of wine with your dinner a few times a week the benefits could be fantastic if the wine advocates have it right.
Red Wine for Your Health
Red wine is thought to be great for your heart due to a high level of heart friendly antioxidants. These antioxidants are thought to raise the level of good cholesterol or lower the rate of bad cholesterol in your body and help keep your arteries in good repair and helping to reduce blood clotting.
I’m no doctor so don’t want to dish out too much advice but more interesting information about the antioxidants in red wine and why they may be so good for your heart can be found in this article from the Mayo Clinic. Always remember though that alcohol can have adverse affects on your health.
Interestingly despite a diet high in saturated fat the French have a historically lower incidence of coronary disease and many believe this could in part be due to their higher consumption of red wine. I have even seen children drinking a small amount of wine in france so although not enough research has been done there could be substance to this idea.
I never used to drink wine as a young adult but around the time I hit my early 20s wine started to become a more normal and less high class beverage. My local Sainsbury (UK) supermarket suddenly started stocking an extensive wine collection and with weekly specials and my attendence of more low key wine centered parties I started to find myself enjoying it. I am no expert and often my palette does not go much beyond knowing is a wine is red, white, bitter, sweet, good, bad but I enjoy the tasting and until I arrived in Cairo would drink a little wine most weeks.
Hopefully the research on red wine being good for your health has some truth and I will continue to see the benefits throughout my life. Whatever the outcome a moderate amount is relaxing and good for my personal mental health!
Do you drink red wine? What do you think of these claims?

I’ve heard reports of bioengineers engineering resveratrol-enhanced beer, so one day you might not have to drink wine to get those cancer-fighting effects
Then again there are those strange studies that show that moderate drinkers live longer than non-drinkers… so weird.

Hey Kevin, yeah I have heard of those studies too. Interesting stuff!
Maybe it would be better to bio engineer resveratrol into non-alcoholic drinks and we can benefit even more then! Healthier beer would be nice though!

Moderation is the key to utilizing wine as a “health food”. A glass every day or every other day will indeed have a beneficial influence, but take care not to have the “more is better” mentality. Alcohol abuse leads to more health problems, not more health solutions.

This is interesting, some are saying that moderation is the key but there are studies that Red wine can actually heal some illnesses in your body.
But don’t just drink Red wine. Just like the saying “to much alcohol will cause your body to become weak.
