Quickly, let me introduce Groupon as a concept and a company. Conceived in 2008 by Chicag0-native Andrew Mason, Groupon is a website that offers daily deals to subscribers in their area as long as a certain number of people purchase it. As the name suggests, the daily deal is a “group coupon”. The company boasts that they help people save on average 50-90% on everything from food, beauty products, to even vacations.

Currently Groupon exists all over the United States, parts of Europe and Asia. The company is estimated to be worth about $312.9 million.

So, how can you “spot” these Groupon deals?

*  Visit the website.

*  Sign up with your email and city/zip code and then receive their daily newsletter with the deals available to you.

Or

*  Visit their website daily and sift through: featured deal, all deals, now deals, getaways and goods.

And

* If you’re looking to spot more Groupon deals, considering signing up for the newsletter for multiple cities nationwide rather than limiting yourself to just your local area.

If you’re looking to get more access to these kinds of “deals of the day”, consider checking out other similar sites. These include: LivingSocial, BuyWithMe and Jasmere.

There are some amazing daily deals available on Groupon and some of these other sites. It’s important that you learn to “spot” the best deals that are offered by these sites by doing a little research before clicking “Buy!” How much of a discount are you going to get? How likely are you to use your deal? Are you being overindulgent or practical?

I don’t use Groupon or any of the other sites very often, but I have a lot of friends who have. Recently my friend and his girlfriend got a Groupon got a pottery & wine class for $25 a person. They had a great time– which just goes to show that some of these deals give you opportunities to try new things that you wouldn’t normally get to try.

I love coupons– and so should you! They are awesome ways to save some serious money, and sometimes have fun on a dime.
