Thanksgiving homecoming stories

I spend a lot of time moaning about people shopping over the Thanksgiving weekend and the rampant consumerism and inhumane distance from caring about anything other than obtaining more objects that it has brought onto people. The main reason for this is I believe thanksgiving should be a time for family, friends and loved ones and things like Thanksgiving homecoming stories really make me feel better about the whole holiday.
This holiday is a time for people to put down their busy lives and forget buying a fridge or a new pair of shoes and make time for each other. Go and spend time with a relative or friend you don’t see too much even if they are just down the road. Relax, eat, drink and be merry and be thankful for everything you have in life.
Thanksgiving isn’t something I grew up with and it’s pretty new to me but it’s something I embrace. Even here in Egypt we will be meeting with friends for a meal tonight and some friends are having a big gathering tomorrow for Egyptian, American and other International friends to enjoy each others company. Everyone is encouraged to share food and drink and just enjoy the company.
Thanksgiving homecoming stories
The most heartwarming thing that holidays like Thanksgiving brings is when people reunite, especially when it is a suprise. Human contact is something we can’t yet recreate with skype or blogging so when friends or family finally get to embrace again after an absense it’s a feeling that can’t be matched.
This article about thanksgiving homecoming stories at MSN made me smile and be thankful for everyone in my life. The article talks about Stephen Kraus who popped out of a box suprising his family who did not expect him until after thanksgiving, a mother and daughter who reunited on the USS Thedore Roosevely, at Sea and Dollie Henson who was reunited with her family after 55 years.
Thanks what this holiday is all about.
Happy Thanksgiving fellow bloggers and readers. I would love to know what you are up to this weekend.

Agreed; the holiday should be about giving thanks, since it’s called “Thanks-giving” after all.
I work all day today + school at night so I won’t be celebrating much today! This weekend busy for final oral + final exam next week. After next Thursday though… freedom!
