If you’re looking for a frugal, fun way to spend October, consider making it a goal to watch the top 10 scariest films of all time. It’s been an expensive month for me already and I definitely am looking for a way to spend the next few weeks in a festive way without breaking the bank. That’s why I thought it would be to plan scary movie marathon nights with my friends. Netflix has plenty horror films available to stream and with potluck snacks and no lights (spooky, eco and $-friendly), the night can be one of the most affordable and fun ones you’ve had in awhile. Halloween is just around the corner and with many people looking to get into the spooky spirit of things, it can be fun to consider some of the top scariest films of all time.

The days are getting shorter, the trees growing barren and there’s a chill in the air that just begs for a scary movie marathon with friends. Watching a terrifying film can be one of the most fun, inexpensive ways to pass evenings at home. I personally can’t watch scary movies alone, as my imagination always gets the best of me, but I enjoy a good scare from time to time in the company of friends. I’ve composed two lists below– one of which is made up of the top 10 scariest films most people agree on. The other list is made up of my personal favorite scary films, some a bit obscure but definitely worth checking out!

Are you looking to curl up on the couch with a friend and some popcorn and get your heart a-racing? Consider the following list of the top 10 scariest films of all time.

1 – The Exorcist

2 – Friday the 13th

3 – Halloween

4 – The Shining

5 – Alien

6 – Psycho

7 – Nightmare of Elm Street

8 – Paranormal Activity

9 – Silence of the Lambs

10 – Jaws

These are all classic American horror films that are worth watching if you haven’t seen them already. Despite the fact that many of them were made decades ago and a lot of the special effects are outdated, they’re still scary!

The Top 10 Scariest Films of All Time

The next list is composed of awesome, offbeat horror films that are well worth watching!

1 - The Orphanage: A Spanish film that’s creepy and twisted and builds up to a great ending.

2 - Anti-Christ: Lars Von Dreer’s controversial film, disturbing and psychological.

3 - Rear Window: If you like suspense, you’ll like this Hitchcock film starring Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly.

4 - Let The Right One In: Bizarre vampire tale that is haunting, sad and innovative.

5 - REC: Another Spanish film about a contaminated city and a camera crew stuck in its midst.

People love the thrill of adrenaline pumping fear. As a result there are hundreds of great movies to watch, some significantly better than others.

I personally have a pretty low tolerance for horror films but have enjoyed most of the movies listed above. If your a film buff and you have some recommendations, please feel free to leave your suggestions below!
