They could have been billionaires: A flash of brilliance is not enough

I was just reading a very interesting article on MSN named “They could have been billionaires: A flash of brilliance is not enough“. Now it doesn’t strike me as that amazing that so many people missed out on being billionaires but it is amazing for what many people did miss out on it for.
The article talks about how the inventor of the karaoke machine spent more time singing in nightclubs than thinking about his invention, how the inventor of Botox never got a patent and how other items such as cash machines, potato chips and even the world wide web were never patented by their inventors so they never benefited from the huge financial windfalls that they should have.
Maybe the fact that they were not patented and thus many companies worked hard creating them was the key to their success. Just think about how many people patent items in the hope of being a billionaire and then never ever let anyone else see the item while the squander their nights away perfecting it…. Only never to get an investor and never release the invention!
So maybe we can be thankful to these people.
