Things to Never Say in a Job Interview – Job interviews are tough and you need to practise. It’s alos important to have an idea of what you absolutely should not be saying!
Things to Never Say in a Job Interview
I thought I would just highlight a few of the thousands of things and subjects that it is probably best you avoid next time you are interviewing for a position.
I hate my last / current job
You should never say that you hate or hated a job unless you have a very valid reason. Negativity related to working could make your potential new employers worried.
This isn’t my first choice but…
Even if a job isn’t 100% what you are looking for don’t say it like that. You can be honest about your career plans but if you need the job see it as a positive stepping stone and again don’t be negative..
I don’t like authority
Probably not good to hint that you won’t listen to management and may even do things to try and screw them over!
Any of George Carlin’s 7-words!
Just work hard not to swear in any job interview.
I don’t get on well with other people
Unless you are being poached because you are the best in the world at what you do you can’t say these kinds of things. In fact it should be something you are working hard to eradicate if it is true! Working will require you try to work with your team in many cases.
I’m hoping to take your job
Obviously a big red flag for any boss!
Bad mouthing the company and it’s practises
Although you may have some disdain to the companies methods and the way they work wait until you are in and settled before you try and change anything.
I got so drunk….
No one wants to employ someone who can’t control themselves, even off the clock.
I’m mot too sure I can do the job but I guess I can try
You need to be honest sure but not so down. Hold some confidence and tell them you will work hard to aquire any new skills needed for the position. Sometimes it may not be worth mentioning at all.
I’m sick quite a bit
Let’s just not mention sick days from that perspective. Ask how many are paid and what the rules are with holidays, pay and sick but don’t act like you will be using them. It is a sore point between employers and employees in USA!
I have had some terrible interviews myself and although I don’t think I have said any of this stuff I have messed up with attitude. I know people who have said some stupid stuff and stuffed things right up but of course you just have to learn from these scenarions.

When I interviewed people, I was always shocked how often I would hear some of these statements! It was as though they do not think at all. Maybe this why some people have difficulty in interviews.
