You may have come across my article where we provided some free printable thank you cards to download. Obviously these cards don’t suit every ‘thank you’ situation and you may have something more in mind for your own design. So to help you out I thought it would be cool to offer some simple tips to bear in mind when creating your own thank you card designs….

Creating your own free printable thank you card tips

The Software

Personally I find it much easier to use a piece of software made for graphics rather than say Microsoft Word. You could also use a desktop publishing platform but i choose Adobe Photoshop. Corel’s graphic software may be great too. Also your printer may have come with some software to prepare your image for card printing…. check out all the extra’s here.

The Text

Many people fail with text when creating their own designs. Use a nice classy font, or a cool but different font. Do not use Comic Sans, Times or Helvetica if you can help it! Also think about spacing, text on top of images is often hard to read so only place it where it can be well read or away from the image completely. Text also needs space between it to read well.

The Images

If you use a low resolution image it can looks blocky and print badly. Maybe use a photograph that you have personally taken or look for free stock imagery on sites like sxc.hu. Istock.com and Bigstock.com also provides images at a very low cost, sometimes as low as $1 per image.

Printing your thank you cards

Find some nice paper, card paper is widly available although don’t pay too much money for it otherwise it will go against the point of creating your own cards for budget reasons! Also put the printer into a good print setting and always test one before running a batch off.
