Tips For StressFree Holiday Season
Tips For StressFree Holiday Season - What, it’s a few weeks to Christmas! Don’t freak out, all is fine even if you have not lifted a finger. Read on to read our tips on how to avoid holiday stress.
Christmas is a time of joy and giving but for many it just turns into a family clashes, displeased kids and financial woes. Even traveling and making sure you see everyone can be stressful. Seeing people is supposed to be fun! This year chill out and refocus, make Christmas work for you. It’s your holiday too so become more centered on your own relaxing and giving to others what is important.
Tips For StressFree Holiday Season: How to avoid holiday stress
1. If you have too many people to see, make a schedule and stick to it - If people are expecting you to be everywhere all at once then the very first thing you need to do is schedule everyone and let them know in advance. If you always do all the traveling then ask people to come and see you at some point and try and leave time between visits. You need to go back to work feeling like you had a break.
2. Don’t overspend, simple! - Kids can be demanding at Christmas, friends with lots of money may be doing lots of fancy things and the temptation to pile debt onto those cards or even take out a small loan are high. Simply don’t. Get a budget and only spend what you can afford. Try and arrange more activities at home and visit friends at their homes. Smother your kids with love and your time. If you have spoiled them heavily in the past then they may well be upset this year but they need to learn to understand finance and why the family needs to watch their money. Consider helping them set up a savings fund and give them a little cash to start it if they were after something specific and expensive.
3. Don’t drink too much – Finally some time off work! Temptation says get smashed on wine and beer but seriously doing this too often over the holiday period with the 15 million things you have planned will only cause an endless run of unpleasant days feeling sick and run down. Drink responsibly and of course enjoy a little but make sure you are always hydrated and work hard to avoid ruining the next day. Time is worth more than one or two heavy nights drinking.
4. Realize you cannot please everyone – Once you just learn to let go of what others think then you can start to deal with the fact that someone will be upset with your actions over xmas. It’s not about not caring but just realizing that those people would be unhappy whatever you did. Just learn to say “I don’t care” and ignore their pettiness. You will feel a lot of stress relief from just letting it go and mildly being a little more self centered (not selfish).
5. Ask for help – If your partner is off here there and everywhere to Christmas drinks or laying around watching Star Wars for the 20th time then don’t keep your mouth shut. Christmas is a time when everyone should help each other out. With bigger events (if you are hosting a family dinner) make sure people either bring items so you don’t have to do everything or come round on Christmas Eve to help out.
At the end of the day it’s all about being well organised and relaxed. If you can’t fit something in you just can’t and that is that. As long as everyone is informed then most people should be cool, understanding and may provide additional support.
Make this holiday one of the most stress free and enjoyable holidays ever.
