Tips to win the lottery
Tips to Win the Lottery: Asking, can you increase your chances of winning the lottery? – Playing the lottery is just a bit of fun for me and it should be for anyone who plays it. However it is a little gamble that as fun as it is would be nice if we actually won something. So of course anything that could increase your chances of winning may be worth following through with, right?
Tips to Win the Lottery: Can you increase your chances of winning the lottery?
Before I get going on these tips I have to disclaim that this post is just a bit of fun. No one should get serious or competitive with the lottery or ever spend money they don’t have spare. It’s just fun and the chances of winning a normal 6 ball numbers 1-49 lottery are 1 in 13,983,816, not something that you can really imagine. Far less likely than being hit by lightening or finding a pearl in an oyster.
That 1 in 13 million chance of course can be increased, let’s look at some of the ways you can do that.
1. Buy more tickets - I’m not encouraging you to go and buy 100′s of dollars worth of tickets each week but every addition ticket will of course increase your odds by a large amount. Remember to buy different numbers on each ticket though, ha ha!
2. Enter a team – Joining in with a lottery pool at work or with friends makes the odds much much better in your favour. Of course you will have to split the jackpot if you do hit the big numbers but normally they are huge enough for this to not really be a big issue.
3. Play the same numbers week after week – I don’t know if this is mathematically right but to me it seems that every week you lose with your numbers the better chance you have of winning with them on the next draw. Mathematicians, please tell me if I have it all wrong!
4. Look at the number statistics to play your numbers – Again this may not be mathematically sound but looking at past numbers and draw patterns could help you pick the most likely numbers to pop up. It’s highly unlikely the numbers that previously won the jackpot will be hit again so you can list them all and avoid them.
5. Don’t miss a week – It’s Murphy’s law that the first week you miss is the week your numbers come up. This is very unlikely but I am sure it has happened and you seriously don’t want it to happen to you. If you do miss a week and you have the will power it is probably best not to check the numbers!
So, Can you increase your chances of winning the lottery? What do you think?
Remember this post is just a bit of fun and no one should rely on winning the lottery although sadly many people do. In reality it is such a long shot that I don’t think any tips increase the odds by enough of an amount to make it worth obsessing over. Do you think it can be done and is it worth it?

Buy more tickets! I only purchased 4-5 tickets last year so I probably need to get in more often.
#3 and 4 are wrong – The result is random so it doesn’t matter what you number you pick at all. Might as well go with 1,2,3,4,5,6.
But who knows, maybe the machine is not truly random.

Hey 40, agreed but it adds to the fun. I think some machines can favor certain balls but not enough to predict.

Mathematician here. #3 and #4 are wrong indeed. The same set of numbers that was drawn last week is just as likely to be drawn again this week.
It’s like roulette. If “19″ came up 3 times in a row, it is still just as likely to come up on the next spin as any other of the numbers.

Thanks Jaymus, still why have the same numbers never been drawn twice for a jackpot? I know it’s not statistically right but it’s not a bad bet (admitting it is a bet here
).

I remember an old episode of The Simpsons where Homer was banking on winning the lottery and he bought 50 tickets. Marge just rolled her eyes at her husband’s “financial planning” and complained that winning the jackpot was a million to one shot. Homer shouts back, “Wrong Marge! It’s a million to 50! I can’t lose!”
Obviously he doesn’t win a thing…hahaha

Ha ha ha, thanks Mike. You HAVE to love the Simpsons. I have a good friend who is great at pub quizzes and he reckons it’s down to watching the Simpsons his whole life.

Yes, I agree with the others that #3 and #4 are wrong. Number odds aren’t increased when it’s random and predictions are impossible. It really just comes down to the luck of the draw.
Entering a team is a legitimate one though that will definitely increase your odds, even if you do end up getting less money if you win.
Though I wouldn’t say buy more lotto tickets to try and increase your odds because to me that is just a foolish waste of money. I go by the thinking that you only need one ticket to win.

Hey Hauser, yes I agree with that. I actually think even 1 ticket is a waste of money. You should only ever play the lottery for fun!

The best way to increase your odds of winning:
1. Write down the number you would have played.
2. Don’t buy any ticket.
3. When some other number is drawn, be happy you didn’t waste a dollar on it.
