Toothless Woman Robbery Dentures – A toothless woman is sitting in jail after robbing a First National Bank on Jan. 20 saying that she needed the money to buy dentures.

Surveillance photos of a woman with what appeared to be no teeth and a sunken lower face robbing a bank in Pennsylvania last month were released and a woman came forward to say she had lent the coat to the suspect.

Yesterday (Wed 3rd feb 2012) police arrested Evelyn Marie Fuller, aged 49 of Carmichaels. She remains in jail unable to post bond.

The suspect allegedly went into the bank and handed over a note saying she had a gun and asking for an undisclosed amount. In her confession to police she said that she had done it to get money to pay for dentures that she would not be able to get until next year on welfare.

Of course it sounds like she was just being dumb but she also mentioned that she had mental health issues and was telling the truth on the advice of her pastor.

Fuller did go onto apologise for her actions telling a reporter “I’m very sorry for what I did and I know God is going to punish me for it,”

The costs for these kinds of dentures are quite high (Basic Dentures, Plate: $300-$500, Upper and Lower: $600-$1,000.) so it’s understandable why a woman on welfare may have trouble affording them. It’s a judgement I can’t fully make but I well imagine her mental health issues means she could have trouble being employed and ever coming across the cash. Of course she could wait until next year but again I bet her mental state contributed to her desperate act.

Police are still investigating because she may have had a driver and other accomplices.

Facebook and Twitter are obviously alight with this kind of story. A lot of people just joking about it but also people showing sympathy. It is sad when someone ends up doing something so desperate and it has shades of the story who robbed a bank for $1 to go to jail to get free healthcare.

These kind of stories, especially when it comes to health, seem to only happen in America (correct me if I am wrong here) and do highlight some serious issues in a system that even if you agree with in principle you can’t deny needs some changes, right?

I personally think the lady should be treated with a light hand. She did break the law and it shouldn’t be encouraged but she clearly has some issues that need attention and maybe some mental health unit treatment will suit over a jail term? That is just my opinion.

    It is sad to hear when someone in this kind of situation has to resort such a desperate act. I agree that they should be light on her with some kind of mental treatment as opposed to jail time. And yes it is a lot like the guy who robbed the bank for healthcare. I’m sure it must happen in other countries too though.

    LETS SEE EX-LEADER OF GOLDMAN SACKS LEADS CAMPAIGN TO DUPE TAX PAYERS FOR 780 BILLION PLUS TAX DOLLARS TO BAIL BANKS. THEN HE REQUIRES A.I.G. THIS INDIVIDUAL WAS ALSO HELPFULL IN MAKING SURE C.D.O”S WERE NOT REGULATED. HMMM…..HUGE CROOK IT SEEMS BUT NO PROSECUTION. TOOTLESS LADY DESPERATE ROBS BANK FOR DENTURES?     I think the media plays a big part in that. US media tends to put a spotlight on the more entertaining stories. Meanwhile, if this were to happen in a poorer country it might be considered a minor story and barely worth reporting. Some media is even connected to the government and forced to focus on specific things.

    By the way, were you anywhere near that big soccer riot in Egypt? Or are you even still in Egypt?
