What’s in a name?

Posted on 02. Jul, 2008 by Forest in General News

Hello and welcome to Frugal Zeitgeist.

Today, with global food crises and oil pushing record highs over $140.00 a barrel, frugality has never been so needed. To survive the world of today, many of us have tried, and are trying, to live a frugal but pleasant existence.

I believe America IS in recession.  Therefore, it is time to prepare for the economy’s dramatic changes by learning to adapt to its all-encompusing effects on our lives.

Frugal Zeitgeist hopes to bring you a plethora of tips and tricks to help you stay frugal and save in all aspect of your day. We will be looking at ways of saving you money on gas, household bills and alternatives to expensive products for recreation, work, health and home. We will also be showing great frugal recipes and general solutions for adapting to today’s economic climate.

So what’s in our name? Why Frugal Zeitgeist?

frugal

/froog’l/

adjective sparing or economical as regards money or food.

— DERIVATIVES frugality noun frugally adverb.

— ORIGIN Latin frugalis, from frux ‘fruit’.

— ORIGIN German, from Zeit ‘time’ + Geist ‘spirit’

We wanted a name that would sum up the idea that being Frugal is appropriate (if not a necessity) for our era. Daily expensives are high.  Yet we can cut costs to ease our hardships, thereby creating a happier life to get through this depressive time.

Really great site and very fitting for this day and age. It is not just the usa that is facing a recession by the way. Here in London times are hard and it’s WAY more expensive to live here anyway. I do however think that people here have a problem with understanding that to learn to live cheap is not to be cheap. Frugality is important at all times and not just the hard times. Maybe I am stuck in my student-esque ways but we are a world of excess consumer spending and for the most part people get ripped off anyway.

I really look forward to your frugal tips and tricks!

Hi, I’m 17 years old and from Ohio. Soon, I’ll be an adult and will have to deal with the problems that America is facing. I’m glad someone is doing something like this. Lately I have been wanting to cut back on my spending and this site looks to be how I’ll keep on track with it. Thanks for doing this, and keep up the great work!
