What’s popular in America: A few of our favorite things
Posted on 03. Sep, 2010 by Forest in General, Opinion
This weekend is a big shopping weekend. Millions of American’s flood the malls and hint down once in a labor day weekend deals in pure belief that they will never be able to ever find such a deal ever ever again. Of course you can get great deals in the sales but we all know much of the consuming is not needed and many people come out of big shopping weekend encumbered with new stuff that they just don’t need! The power of advertising is strong.
In this article we are going to look at some of the most popular things in America.
What’s popular in America: A few of our favorite things
Most popular car
According to AOL the most popular car in USA in June 2010 was the Ford F150 pick up truck. It apparently sold 46,502. That is a lot of new trucks on the road! Second place was the Chevy Silverado (another pick up) and in third place the Toyota Camry
Most popular fast food restaurant
I couldn’t find any recent numbers for actual sales but according to this article from ksfm Papa Johns was surprisingly the most popular fast food joint amongst people in a consumer index survey. I actually really like Papa Johns here in Cairo too! To be honest I would have thought Burger King or KFC to be number 1. They are probably very high on the sales list with McD’s likely number one for sales.
Most popular coffee
American’s love their coffee, that is for sure! Although everyone grabs a Starbucks / Dunkins every now and then people still consume most of their coffee in the home or office. The number one brand according to WalletPop was Folgers with Maxwell House (which I hate) and Eight O’Clock in second and third respectively.
Biggest Selling Phone
I would have said iPhone in a flash. Everyone seems to be using them. However Mobiledia says something different. They have the best selling phone currently as the HTC Droid Incredible then Samsung Captivate and Motorola Droid 2. Suprising!
Most Popular Music
Music isn’t consumed like it used to be but it’s still a big part of our lives and most of us still buy some. Wikipedia says that everyone’s favorites are still the top sellers (of all time). The Beatles, Elvis and Michael Jackson.
What else would you like me to add to the list?

I’m a little surprised papa Johns was voted most popular. I would have expected McDonalds. I’m a Wendy’s kind of guy myself.

Me too. I have never had a Wendy’s burger in USA. They used to be in England when I was a kid (gone now) and were famed for square burgers. But still Wimpy burger was the best
…. The Burger King came and stole the crown.

I love that an Englishman in Egypt is writing about popular things in America. I wish it was a different coffee, but trust me my Midwest relatives all drink Folgers or Maxwell House.
We buy whole beans roasted by Starbucks and grind at home each morning (well the coffeemaker does that).
If it was California only, I’d say the most popular fast food would be In and Out burgers, but I may be wrong.

Ha ha, well I spent a lot of time in USA
and most of you guys are from there too so I generally write and think from an American perspective in these kind of posts.
Yeah the top coffees are not great by any stretch! Here in Egypt we get excellent unbranded coffee that they grind in front of you and add spices if you wish (ginger and cardamon most often)…. Only problem is I don’t know if it’s fair trade or not.

That coffee sounds pretty good with the spices.

If done right it can be really nice. If you get a cup with too much spice or not very good coffee then not so good…
