Relocation can be due to many things. You may want to be closer to family or work may be the reason. You could have been laid off, you could be being asked to move by your company or hired by a new one. It’s a big decision and needs serious thought and commitment to go through with it.
A recent survey from Manpower pointed to Louisiana, Washington, Wisconsin, Arizona and Oklahoma for being the States most likely for you to find work in and if they are high in employment in your field then maybe you could consider a move to the most suitable, or close one to you. The survey talked to over 18k employers in over 100 metropolitan areas to get it’s details.

I love looking at these lists – they are so interesting. In my state unemployment is very low, and it is in north dakota as well (below 5%, and north dakota is below 4%).
Yet neither of these made the list!

Hey Jeff, wow, really that low in N.Dakota? I thought only Vermont was at those levels right now.

I’m in NY and the job situation here is kind of mixed. If you’re into IT, there’s no shortage of IT jobs – they’re highly in demand. I know companies that are always looking for the brightest and best, and they have to struggle to find them.

Thanks Henway, as always it really does depend on where your expertise lies. Tech is still bigger than most other areas so it’s good to be involved there.

I’m kind of surprised about the Phoenix-metro area. Their housing market is one of the worst in the nation, so I’m kind of shocked that the employment outlook is so positive.
As for the San Diego area bouncing back, this seems to make sense to me. They were one of the first hit during the housing bust, so it would make sense that they would be the first to bounce back looking at the economy as a whole. Thanks for sharing. I love data.

I think all data has to be taken with a pinch of salt and the facts are not always relative to what it’s really like to be in an area…. San Diego will always bounce back I think.

I think the state of Texas is the best state for finding jobs. The state has less unemployment than most of the states.

I’m glad to see a strong showing (tied for #4) from Phoenix — which got hit especially hard by the housing bubble — and Youngstown, Ohio, which is close to Cleveland is is hurting from the lack of manufacturing jobs.
