A fancy dress party is always fun!
Quirky New Year’s party ideas for last minute parties….
I have written a few posts about New Year’s parties in the last few days and if you have not organised one yet then you may be at a loss as to where to start. You may also have things to consider such as budget requirements and even what is needed to make the party work. Our posts on how to plan a New Year’s Eve party and organising a New Year’s Eve party on a budget may be helpful but let’s also look at some alternative and quirky ideas for your party.
Quirky New Year’s party ideas
It’s easy to get bored of the same old and you may want to make your party at least a little bit memorable. Of course all parties share some similarities (someone extremely drunk, more people surrounding the fridge than anywhere else in the house and an argument between a couple!) but add something quirky and it will really help set a spark and a great time will be had.
Theme the party
You have a million options for theming your party. Classics such as black and white, sinners & saints, general fancy dress or something specific like Hawaiian are all good options. If you have recently held a party say for Halloween or Thanksgiving you could go the quirkiest route of recreating your success and asking everyone to try and come as the same thing again. You can use the same decorations and even make the same food. People may find such a thing quite funny, especially if the first one was a hit.
Poker night!
Set up a poker tournament and have people betting with chips, if some people have never played then they can pair up and it could be a whole lot of fun. Supply nibbles, drinks and even prizes if you want it to be competitive.
Early bar crawl and quiet relaxed gathering at home
People do enjoy the bars so why not get a group together and head out during the day, do a whole bar crawl in the afternoon and just as the crowds start coming out retire to your home and have a relaxed unorganised gathering with drinks and whatever snacks you grab from the gas station! It could turn out ending a bit earlier than normal but will be a riot.
Garden Party
if you live in a part of the States where it’s not -20 or more then you may be able to pull off a garden party outdoors. If cold you could have a fire, marshmallows and soup. If warm like in the deep south then just enjoy it like a regular eve outside with a BBQ and beers.
Your cool New Year’s party ideas
I have a party I am attending tomorrow night. We still have to come up with soem decor ideas but it’s mostly organised. Still it would be great to have your ideas and thoughts to see if we can make it any better.
I hope you have a great New Year’s and thanks a million for reading.

I am enjoying the party of “2″. Just the wife and I alone at home. Not entirely boring, I am bringing food home, a little wine, lighting the fireplace (no matter how warm it will be), lighting candles and ring in the New Year! This may not be for everybody, but it fits us fine.

Happy New Year Michelle, that sounds like a fine way to spend the evening.
I got extremely drunk, my hangover cure did good though but still wiped out.
Hope 2011 is great for you too but I have no doubts it will be.
